In June, our team spent the day with O&G Industries, one of the Northeast’s largest construction firms. Blue Margin and O&G have been partners since Q4 2023, and this visit let us meet the team in person and walk one of their biggest project sites together.
Most of the day was spent at the Amtrak Connecticut River Bridge Replacement in Old Saybrook, CT. O&G, in joint venture with Tutor Perini Corporation, is replacing a bridge that first went into service in 1907.
The scale is hard to picture until you stand next to it. The new two-track electrified movable bridge will use roughly 25,000 cubic yards of concrete, more than 13 million pounds of structural steel (including a 207-foot bascule span), and over 4 million pounds of reinforcing steel. It is being built about 50 feet south of the existing bridge, so the 50+ daily Amtrak and CTrail Shore Line East trains keep running the whole time.
The $1.3 billion project is backed by an $826.64 million federal grant, is expected to wrap in July 2030, and is engineered to last 100 years. You can read more on O&G’s site.
Projects at this scale run on good information. Over the past three years, we have built out O&G’s data foundation with our Managed Data Service. Today their leaders get real-time visibility in Power BI, which helps them run projects like this one effectively.
Standing on that site made the connection real for us. We are proud of what we have built together, and we are excited for what comes next.
Thank you to Tiffany, Mark, Kevin, Zac, and the entire O&G team for being such gracious hosts. We were more than impressed.
